Redoable 1.2 - Here now!

The loooong wait is over. Redoable 1.2 is here! I know there have been many people who have been hanging out desperate for this for quite a while. Sorry I hadn’t got it out earlier, but I had a long list of things that I wanted to fix and include before I released it.

Again thanks to everyone who is participating through comments and on the support forum. Without you many of the little bugs would go un-noticed, and therefore unfixed. As always if you find something that you think might be a bug let me know.

Redoable 1.2 isn’t all about bug fixes (mind you they took up the most time), I’ve added a couple of extra features and fixed up a couple of others.

Now with 16 colour schemes to choose from!
Have a look at all the combinations here.

Keep reading for further details of the new features, bug fixes and plugin support that have been included in Redoable 1.2.

Many hours of work have gone in Redoable, not to mention the time I spend answering support requests and general bug questions. If you really like Redoable and are feeling generous, then please donate to help with the future development of Redoable, and future projects.

New plugin support

Support for these plugins has been added.

  • Wordpress Download Monitor - since switching to this plugin my downloads have been working brilliantly.
  • Twitt-Twoo - update and display your twitter status in the sidebar of your blog.

Bug fixes

These are just some of the bugs that have been fixed in Redoable 1.2

  • Fixed the spacing problems between sidebar modules.
  • Fixed the problem that was causing the wrong comments to be displayed with each post (yay!)
  • Corrected the behaviour of links in the sidenotes column to closer reflect my initial intentions.
  • Fixed the margins to remove scroll bars when viewed at 1024×768 resolution.

New features

Everyone likes a good feature.

  • Added Technorati ‘blog reactions’ to posts.
  • The dynamic style option allowing you to choose between 16 different colour combinations for your blog right from the admin area. Both light and dark schemes are available.
  • Several new admin options including the ability to turn off the ‘Get Firefox’ banner, to use a custom logo in the header, and to configure your badge farm.
  • The sidenotes column (only visible on the homepage) is now widgetised!
  • There is now an alternate page menu that can be displayed in a row below the header instead of in the top right corner.
  • And heaps, heaps more. Checkout the changelog.txt for full details.

For full details of all changes in this release please see the included changelog.txt with the Redoable 1.2 download.

Exisiting issues

  • LiveSearch still doesn’t work with custom permalinks. This has also been reported by other users of K2 (which Redoable is based on), but as yet no-one has had a good answer.

Installation

Download the zip file. Extract, then upload the Reodable folder to your wp-content/themes folder on your web server. Goto the presentation section in your admin, and select Redoable 1.2. Set your options in the Redoable options panel. Enjoy.

Upgrade

It should be possible for you to upgrade from Redoable 1.1 to 1.2 by copying the new files over the old ones (this is how I upgraded, and worked fine for me). I recommend making a backup of any files that may be affected before doing any kind of upgrade. Upload the new Redoable folder to your wp-content/themes directory on your web server, and then select Redoable 1.2 from the presentation menu in your admin area. Which ever method you choose, you should not lose any of your settings from Redoable 1.1, unless you choose the “uninstall” option. As always if you’re worried, just make a backup beforehand. don’t forget to check the Redoable options page, and make sure everything is in order.

Wordpress 2.0 and 2.1 Support

I have tried to ensure that Redoable remains compatible for both users of Wordpress 2.0.x and 2.1.x.

Should you come across any compatibility problems with Wordpress 2.1 (or Wordpress 2.0.x) please leave a message in the Support forums, and I will try and fix it asap. In fact, if you come across any problems what-so-ever, leave me a message in the support forum and I will get back to you asap.

Left padding/margin is still there. On 1024×768, there is a horizontal scrollbar- at least on this website now.

Thank you so much for all the changes you’ve made with this upgrade.

And thank you for all your explanations.

I’m crossing my fingers that when I do the upgrade, it holds together as it did for you.

Clicked submit to fast… Also the sidebar isn’t displaying all the standard modules which are available in Redoable… Check the badges for instance…

Once there is another post or two it will be ok, its just becuase the left hand side(posts) is shorter than the sidebar. Its one of those thing that I’ve tried fixing several times but each time it breaks something else.

Clicked submit to fast… Also the sidebar isn’t displaying all the standard modules which are available in Redoable… Check the badges for instance…

Some of the modules such as ‘Tags’ , which requires the UTW plugin, need plugins to be installed and active before they will be shown in the sidebar.

As for the badges, make sure that you have them all selected in the Redoable options panel.

Hope that help, if you have any other questions let me know.

Thanks for your support, you’re right I needed more text to fill the pages…

Still having trouble with the options page. Looks like my selections aren’t written to the db or something.

Firefox banner should be disabled but isnt, badges are selected but not shown etc.

I think I’ll make a custom plugin from my ajax style switcher to give visitors the option to choose their own color.

    Awesome work as usual.

    Thanks Dan.

I have a “style switcher” in my (long) list of tickets for future revisions, but if you make a custom plugin that might solve that one for a lot of people.

How come your gravatars work perfectly fine while I suffer on the ‘gravatar icon’ link that appears for non-gravatar users? I can’t even set my own image as well if I’m logged in as the admin.

Please help me sir…. i’m no php know-it-all. Thanks in advance ^_^

I really want to use this, but the side bar modules will not work. This is REALLY frustrating because I want to use the middle column on the home page to place my own content and not just 3 random posts with the links stripped out of them.

Right now I have to resort to using inline frames which make the site slow to load.

Any idea when this will be fixed, or if there is any way to make 1.1 users make links on that middle column active???

I’m not looking forward to transferring my site to the new theme regardless since I have added custom things to the theme already…. :S

Very nice design. Would you consider incorporating support for threaded comments? Example:

Let me say that this is the best template I have seen in a while. I am running it on a test domain to work out all the configurations before going live.

I am having a problem with the posts. Initially it looked great, but for some reason, i cannot get all of the recent posts to show up on the site. It’s only showing the most recent. I have the general options for word press to show 10 posts, but I am thinking it must be in one of the redoable options’. Do you know what may be causing this behavior?
